The General Court of the European Union confirmed last year in Case T-105/23 the decision of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to invalidate Iceland Foods Ltd. exclusive right to the word mark and figurative mark ICELAND.

The UK supermarket chain declared last autumn that it was not going to appeal the decision. This caught the eyes of the international press in March this year, see interviews here and here.
This has ended a 20-year legal dispute between the Icelandic Government and the UK food chain Iceland. The food chain gets, however, to keep the name Iceland.
